RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

NLP-based Multi-Criteria Scoring Platform for Biomedical Databases
Jun. 2025 - Sept. 2025
Support: University College London
Supervisor: Dr. Christopher Waudby

  • Designed and implemented a web-based platform (Python/Streamlit) that automatically scores biomedical databases to support data-driven drug development and pharma decision-making.
  • Developed an NLP pipeline to extract key attributes (e.g. update frequency, data types, clinical coverage) from database documentation, integrating them into a multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) framework.
  • Evaluated approximately 50 biomedical databases, comparing overall and dimension-specific scores and visualising trade-offs between timeliness, completeness, usability, and accessibility.
  • Collaborated with an external think-tank company (Allotap) to align scoring criteria with real-world use cases in target identification and evidence gathering.
  • Techniques and tools: Python, NLP, MCDA, pandas, data visualisation, basic front-end design with Streamlit

Dendrobium officinale, Exosome Stability and Gastric Mucosal Injury
Jun. 2023 - Jun. 2024
Support: Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University
Supervisor: Professor Jie ZHANG

  • Investigated the protective effects of Dendrobium officinale-derived components on gastric mucosal injury using LC–MS-based metabolomics and in vivo models.
  • Performed LC–MS data processing and differential analysis (R/Python), identifying key phenolic acids and linking several candidates to anti-inflammatory and mucosal repair pathways.
  • Evaluated exosome morphology and storage stability using TEM and NTA, and optimised basic cryopreservation conditions to maintain vesicle integrity over time.
  • Research Methods: LC-MS technology, Data analysis (R), Enrichment Analyst, target analyst, MTT, wound healing, histopathology, biochemical criterion.

A Survey of Species Diversity in Qujiang Pool
2022
Support: School of Life Sciences, Xi’an Jiaotong University
Supervisor: Professor Kun GAO

  • Field: Biological Science
  • Conducted field sampling and online data processing due to COVID-19 restrictions
  • Prepared Chinese and English reports and delivered presentations
  • Research Achievement: Finished the investigation tasks and the Chinese and English versions of the investigation report.

INTERNSHIP

Allotap Ltd|XABNI Open Explorer (Biomedical Search Platform)|Remote, UK
Intern|Data & Product Support
Jun. 2025 – Sept. 2025

  • Gained an in-depth understanding of XABNI Open Explorer, a biomedical search and productivity tool integrating data from PubMed, Europe PMC, ClinicalTrials.gov, NIH, and other databases.
  • Supported competitor mapping, user/market research, and the drafting of tutorial and web content to inform the platform’s positioning and go-to-market strategy.
  • Collaborated with software engineers and marketing staff on product updates and scientific content curation, and identified limitations in existing database selection workflows that later informed my MSc dissertation on an NLP-based multi-criteria scoring platform.
